Vinoth Kumar wins the title
The final day of the 5th Thrissur FIDE rating chess tournament saw fierce battle on the top boards. Four players Joy Lazar of Thrissur , Ramakrishna Perumalla of AP & Vinoth kumar and Mugil Jayavel of TN tied on the top 7.5 points at the end of the 9th and final round. Vinod Kumar edged out Perumalla & Joy Lazar to lift the title. Joy Lazar drew Perumalla on the top board after Joy stretched out for a win in vain in 30 moves. By that time Vinoth outplayed Srikanth to comfortably tie for the top honours. Alex Thomas who was in the lead for most of the part ended up in the 5th place. On the final day the function was graced by Hon Thrissur MLA, Shri Ramakrishnan Therambil, . Shri Igni Mathew , President , District Sports Council spoke on the occasion . Balagopal, Organising secretary , welcome the gathering. Peter Joseph, Jt Secy , TCA, delivered the vote of thanks.
